Camp Agape Northwest Logo Ideation
Camp Agape Northwest, a cost-free week-long camp for kids with cancer and their families is a 501(c)(3) organization who’s mission is to provide kids with cancer a chance to feel normal, siblings a chance to feel special, and parents a come together and heal. They were looking for a new logo that would help them re-launch their brand to past, present and future families and volunteers of the organization.
Ideation
As the Marketing and Communications Intern for Camp Agape Northwest, I was thinking about the camp brand, and was talking to my manager who at the time had mentioned that they were considering changing the logo to something that would fully embody what Camp Agape Northwest truly is.
As I was thinking about the logo and what it should be, there were three main things that inspired my initial design of this logo. The previous logo was 3/4 of a red heart. This embodied the “Agape” part of the organziation, but to me it didn’t show families that we were a camp for kids with pediatric cancer.
Three main factors that I used to design the initial inspiration of this logo:
Gold Ribbon
The meaning of “Agape”
Inspiration
Gold Ribbon - The gold ribbon, like the pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness, is the ribbon shown to symbolize childhood pediatric cancer. I wanted to incorporate the ribbon into the logo, but use it to subtly show the connection between our organization and its tie to pediatric cancer.
The meaning of “Agape” - Agape is the highest form of love. For this reason, I really liked the heart symbol of the old previous logo. I wanted to keep some part of the previous logo so that it wasn’t entirely unrecognizable, and the heart made the most sense since the camp’s title is “Camp Agape Northwest”.
Footprints of Fight’s Logo - I was an intern at Footprints of Fight, a local nonprofit that provides services, grocery cards and gas cards to families currently undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer. Their logo, a “foot” using the gold ribbon as a majority of the logo is exactly the type of incorporation of the ribbon into the logo that I wanted to be a part of Camp Agape Northwest’s.
Final Ideation and Creation
I drew out the initial logo idea on paper, and sent it to my manager. She had a designer take the initial drawing and turn it into something more suitable and final for the camp. The initial idea was to create a heart using the one side of the gold ribbon and the other of 1/2 of a heart. The colors and font were chosen by the graphic designer as he put finalized and created the rest of the logo.
