Camden Thorngate’s Peace Corps Blog

Camden Thorngate was heading off to Armenia to be a TEFL volunteer for 2 years with the Peace Corps of America. She was in need of a blog - an outlet to share her experience with friends, family and other prospective Peace Corps Volunteers. We collaborated together and I created a small website/blog that would allow her to share her experiences with those who are following her journey.

Phase 1: Ideation

Usually, this is the first stage where you would meet, create Wireframes and Lo-fis of what the potential new website would look like, but due to the short nature of this project, Camden brainstormed everything she wanted included in her website, some copy she wanted to use, and sent the things she wanted to see over to me.

Things included:

  • About this Blog

  • What I’m Doing Right Now

  • Blog Posts

  • Photos

  • Peace Corps Armenia Information

  • Specific photos

  • One initial blog post

Mood Board

Phase 2 - Creation

I started by creating the homepage - thinking of what the most important elements would be for visitors to the site, and brainstorming how it should look.

I created the graphic on the bottom blade using Procreate to show the location she was travelling to and from. Starting from Seattle, WA and moving around the world to Armenia, the graphic is a representation of where Camden will be staying as a PCV.

After passing off the website to Camden, she now has control over what content is included or not included, and I can make any small changes or updates that she may not be able to herself. The blog feature is the most widely used, followed by the photo feature which allows others to see what she has been up to. You can also subscribe to receive emails when Camden has written another new blog post.
